Meet Dr. James Flynn

Born and raised in Michigan, Dr. James Flynn attended Michigan State University before earning his dental degree from The University of Detroit School of Dentistry in 1982. After earning the rank of major and being honorably discharged in 1985 from the United States Army, Dr. Flynn began privately practicing dentistry in Denver, CO before moving back to Michigan in 1992 to be closer to family. After tiring of weeks raking leaves in the Fall and months of shoveling snow in the Winter, the Flynn Family agreed that it would be a really good idea to move to the beautiful Arizona desert to escape what seemed to be 10 months of Winter and 2 months of bad snowmobiling. After being recognized by his peers for several years as one of Tucson's Best Dentists, he transitioned from his full-time practice in Oro Valley in 2020 to assume part-time positions. Initially, Dr. Flynn continued practicing in Michigan in short-term locum tenens positions, but he currently works at one of Tucson's Native American tribal dental clinics.
Dr. Flynn and his wife, Barb, have resided in the Tucson area for 23 years. They have two adult children, Andrew and Kelly. Dr. Flynn enjoys working out at the gym, hiking, reading, desert landscaping, and following Michigan sports teams, especially the Michigan State Spartans and the Detroit Lions.
Dr. Kirkland and Dr. Flynn have built a great rapport with each other and attend continuing education classes together. Dr. Kirkland and Dr. Flynn believe in the same principals and practice very similarly. Dr. Flynn has over 44 years of dental expertise and looks forward to helping make your smile better. Continuing dental education, providing patient treatment options, establishing rapport with patients, and providing excellent care to patients are of greatest importance to Dr. Flynn.
